Methodology

Dividend records

Dividends are read from the corporate-action data published by NSE and BSE. One row is one company, one ex-date and one dividend amount. NSE and BSE records for the same company, ex-date and amount are merged and shown as “NSE + BSE”. The dividend type (Interim, Final, Special) is shown only when the exchange wording states it; otherwise it reads “Not stated”. When the wording lists several amounts that cannot be separated, the amount is shown as unavailable instead of guessing.

Dates

  • Announcement — the date and time of the first NSE or BSE announcement that mentions this dividend (looked up company by company in the exchange announcement feeds). If no such announcement is found, it reads “Unavailable”; no date is estimated.
  • Ex-Date — the first session on which the share trades without the dividend entitlement.
  • Record date and payment date — shown only when the exchange data states them.

Price performance

FigureCalculation (price return)
Ex-Date PerformanceEx-date close vs the previous trading session’s close.
1 Trading DayClose of the first session after the ex-date vs the ex-date close.
5 Trading Days (“After 1 Week”)Close of the 5th completed trading session after the ex-date session vs the ex-date close. Weekends and exchange holidays are skipped. Until five sessions have closed it reads “Pending”; a partial figure is never shown.
CurrentLatest available price vs the ex-date close, with its own time stamp.
Reference price at announcementAnnounced before market open: previous session close. During market hours: close of the last completed 1-minute interval before the announcement. After market close: that session’s close. On a weekend or holiday: previous session close. Shown only when the exchange data has the announcement time.

Return % = (comparison price − reference price) ÷ reference price × 100. A share price normally falls by about the dividend on the ex-date, so a dividend-inclusive figure is shown separately as “Total return”: (price + dividend) ÷ previous close − 1. It is shown only when the dividend amount is known. The two are never mixed.

Data sources and limits

  • Dividend data: NSE and BSE corporate-action pages. These are not documented public APIs, so data is collected in the background at a modest rate and cached; if an exchange is unreachable the last available data is shown with a notice.
  • Prices: Upstox market-data APIs (daily candles for closes, last traded price for current). A session’s official close is used once the provider publishes it, usually the next morning. After the market closes (15:40 IST) the same day’s figures use the last traded price and are marked with an asterisk (*) until the official close replaces them. Before that, the figure is “Pending”.
  • When a price is missing from the data source, “Price data unavailable” is shown. No value is estimated or filled in from the current price.
  • Prices are used as published by the data provider and are not adjusted by this tool for splits or bonus issues; such an action between two dates can distort a return.
  • All dates and times are in Indian Standard Time (IST).
  • Trading-holiday calendar loaded for: 2024, 2025, 2026.
