Haridwar Mart

What is it?

A local digital grocery business serving customers across Haridwar with fresh fruits, vegetables and everyday grocery essentials. Customers can check updated prices online and place their orders through WhatsApp

Why I started it

I wanted to solve a simple everyday problem — making fresh vegetables, fruits and grocery shopping more convenient without making the customer compromise on what they actually receive.

What started in 2019 as a local initiative gradually became a digital-first grocery operation, combining local delivery with an online presence

The problem

Local grocery shopping often means visiting multiple places, checking changing market prices and spending time arranging delivery.

Haridwar Mart was built around a simpler experience: keep the prices accessible online, let customers share their list through WhatsApp, and deliver the requested items to their doorstep.

What I’m building

Haridwar Mart is more than an online product catalogue. I’m building a practical digital system around a local grocery business.

Today it includes:

  • Daily fruit & vegetable price updates
  • Online grocery catalogue
  • WhatsApp-based ordering
  • Doorstep delivery across Haridwar
  • Grocery, fruits, vegetables and other daily-use categories
  • Digital workflows for managing prices and orders

The goal is to keep the customer experience simple while making the backend of a local business more organised and scalable.

What I’ve learned

Building a real business is very different from building a website.

I’ve learned that technology only becomes useful when it solves an actual operational problem. Pricing changes every day, customers prefer familiar ordering methods, product availability changes, and small improvements in the workflow can make a meaningful difference.

Haridwar Mart has also been an ongoing experiment in combining business, technology, operations and customer experience.

What’s next

The next phase is focused on making the system more efficient — improving price management, order processing, customer communication and the overall digital experience while keeping the local, personal nature of the business intact.
