Automation code
Test a selector
Type any CSS selector or XPath (starting with //) to see what it matches on this page.
How it works
- Stable id, data-testid, name, label or role: rarely changes.
- Good placeholder, type, link, class or visible text: fine for most scripts.
- Fragile based on position in the page: may break when the layout changes.
What does the Selector Finder do?
It lists every button, input, dropdown, link, form and frame on a web page, with its id, name and classes, and builds the most stable CSS selector and XPath for each one. You can copy a selector, export the list, or generate starter code for Selenium, Playwright or BeautifulSoup.
How does it choose the "best" selector?
It prefers attributes that rarely change: id, then test attributes such as data-testid, then name and aria-label, then placeholder, type, link address and meaningful class names. Auto-generated ids and classes (for example css-1x9k2a or :r3:) are ignored. Every selector is checked to match exactly one element. If nothing stable exists, it uses the element's text or its position, and marks it Fragile.
Why are some elements missing?
The URL mode reads the HTML the website sends. Pages built with JavaScript (React, Angular, many dashboards and broker terminals) add their buttons later in the browser, and pages behind a login are not visible to the tool. For these, open the page in your own browser, copy its HTML (or use the "Copy page HTML" bookmark) and use Paste HTML. Content inside iframes has to be checked separately using the frame's own address.
Is my data stored?
No. Pasted HTML never leaves your browser. In URL mode the page is downloaded by this website's server, kept in a short cache for a few minutes, and analysed in your browser. Nothing is logged except daily counts.
Can I automate any website with this?
Use it on websites you own or are allowed to automate. Many websites' terms, as well as CAPTCHAs and bot protection, restrict automated access. For trading and banking platforms, use the official API where one exists.
